Hazard Factsheets

Together with leading public health organisation, Vital Strategies, ARNEC has developed a series of factsheets that home in on four top climate and environmental hazards facing children in the Asia-Pacific region. They are air pollution, flooding, lead poisoning and heatwaves.

The factsheets explain how the hazard relates to early childhood development, and provides tips and solutions on what we can do, from an individual, community, city and national level. Over time, the goal is to add more factsheets as well as run concurrent workshops to help to socialise the hazards to different groups and support their efforts in advocacy and solutioning.

Air Pollution

Air Pollution

Air pollution is harmful in early childhood, and can also lead to lifelong health and developmental impacts. In this factsheet, we provide more information about this issue and suggest a list of actions you can take, whether as individuals or collectively.

Flooding

Flooding

Flooding is one of the most destructive consequences of climate change, harming both families and children, while negatively affecting all components of nurturing care. Learn more about flooding and what you can do in this factsheet.

Heatwaves

Heatwaves

Extreme heat affects us all, but pregnant women and young children are particularly vulnerable. This factsheet aims to deepen understanding of this issue and propose actionable steps.

Lead Poisoning

Lead Poisoning

Lead (Pb) is a toxic heavy metal that is particularly harmful to young children. Lead exposure affects one in every three children globally, with the majority residing in low-and middle-income countries.
